Christian Leidholm

Instructor of Guitar

My Background: Music has been my life since I was 11 years old. While guitar has been at the forefront of my life the past 14 years, I expanded my skills by learning drums, bass, piano, and how to sing during that time. I graduated from University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Music Business along with a certificate in Music Technology in Spring 2023. I discovered a love of recording and producing music during my time at UNC and managed to produce my first album “My Journey” as my Senior Capstone project. I have taught teenagers and children during summers when I was away from school and am excited to get back into it. When I am not teaching, I work as a booking assistant for Grammy nominated country singer Steven Cade and at the Union Colony Civic Center as a theater tech (my personal favorite show to work so far has been Martina McBride).

What I Love About Teaching: Just being able to share what I know with other people is what I enjoy the most about teaching. Seeing students enjoy what they create and watching them grow is a really special feeling.

One Way I Help My Students Succeed and Flourish: One of the first things I tell my students is to not fear mistakes, but to, in fact, embrace them. Failure and mistakes exist for a reason, and it’s to be one of the best teachers possible. And with mistakes comes growth, and my hope would be that students would grow to be independent; playing music without necessarily requiring my help. But, even more important than anything else, I want them to understand that music isn’t just another homework assignment; it’s supposed to be fun!

Performance Experience: While in college, I performed a number of performances with UNC’s Classical Guitar Ensemble and Choir. But I think my most notable performances would be University of Northern Colorado’s Center for Arts Entrepreneurship StART Salon at the Moxi in Greeley, accompanying the Colorado Dance Collective at the Union Colony Civic Center on Guitar, performing my own Senior Recital on both guitar and voice, and, my personal favorite, performing the Carmina Burana with UNC’s choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City!
