Student Spotlight – Cadence and Cami Heaston

Friday December 1, 2017

Cadence and Cami are sisters who have been taking lessons at Flourish Music Academy since June 2017. They are learning how to play duets together and performed three duets at the Halloween Recital.

They also each performed before the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra concert on September 22.

We are excited to watch these young musicians continue to grow and flourish! Keep up the good work!

Cadence, viola

9th grade at Northridge High School

What do you love about playing your instrument?

I just love expressing myself through it. I am not a huge fan of performing but I love playing because I don’t have to talk. The viola is really beautiful, I love it.

What is an obstacle you had to overcome to play duets?

Relearning all the things I had been taught in school. Not starting in private lessons is hard, so in school you can pick up bad habits. Also working on good intonation and harmonies.

What do you like about Flourish?

I love our teachers! I love the environment here; it is not stressful, sometimes with playing you can get stressed out with all the work to do, but the teachers make it very relaxed and easy to learn new concepts.

What else do you like to do?

I like to read; I am currently reading the count of Monte Christo. I also like spending time with my friends. I love to travel, one of my favorite things to do.

Cami Heaston, cello

7th grade, Winograd K-8 School

What do you love about playing your instrument?

I love playing cello because it is a way to express myself, but also it is one of the only instruments that my mom can’t teach me, so it is a way to connect with other people.

What is an obstacle you had to overcome to play duets?

I played in school and orchestra, but just playing with one other person you have to be exactly in tune and at the right time. It has been hard for me to get the exactness, but I have improved.

What do you like about Flourish?

That it’s aweome! The teachers and everyone are very encouraging and helpful and want us to get better and grow. Even if we do something wrong they will be like “maybe we can work on it like this.” They help you get better.

What else do you like to do?

I love to read; my favorite books are fantasy like Lord of the Rings. I love to dance; I do pointe in ballet.
